Finding Eco-Friendly Houses

Panchavarna

Just as there are many different kinds of people in the world, there are also many different focuses in green building. When looking for eco-friendly homes it is important that buyers know what their priorities and interests are. There are those who are interested mostly in the building process and materials being used and their impact on the environment- including those who focus in carbon neutrality, and those who focus on Healthy Built, LEED, or Energy Star compliance, or even those whose focus is point-of-source production, or any combination of eco-related concerns, for example. Some people love the idea of living in a close knit-community that strongly supports each other, and at the same time, each family or individual is also working for the good of the community as a whole, while others like the idea of homesteading in their own space, while belonging to a community of other homeowners that have all agreed to live by eco-friendly guidelines to provide themselves with a healthy community environment.

You don't necessarily have to buy into a pre-existing home, either. Many communities offer empty lots for those who would prefer to build their own home to their unique individual specifications. As long as your home fits into the general guidelines and requirements subscribed to members of the community, you can create your dream home within a community of existing eco-houses. This takes us back to the different green ideals that a community and its residents have to all agree on, for an intentional community to work. It may be that there are areas where a community would have more stringent or more lax guidelines than a person had wanted in their lifestyle choices- but these are really not a lot to get around when you've found a great space in which to create your future home. The important thing is to take the time to speak to members of the community, particularly whoever is head of the community association, to find out what will be expected of you and your family. Take some time to think about the guidelines you will live with- you can even try implementing them right away to see if your eco-friendly lifestyle will fit your intentional eco-friendly community.
